predecessor to Shana and Miranda, Shirley is one of Rose’s comrades from the Dragon Campaign. when everyone else fell at the battle of Kadessa, Shirley was saved from certain death and is found in modern day Serdio near Lohan. now a wraith of who she once was, Shirley has seemingly borrowed the power of the white silver dragoon to survive in solitude at her namesake shrine. Drake, a kind hearted but clever bandit, is her only companion until she donates her dragoon spirit to save Shana from Feyrbrand’s poison.
here’s an early draft of Shirley that i drew while in Seattle, just under a month ago. this early version was halted early during the draft stage because i didn’t feel like i captured her spirit in the way i intended. she quite the cute drawing, but i wanted to create a more mysterious look. i have this tendency to create beautiful characters that also look scary, which i personally love. the dichotomy of beauty and fear, i like that mix of flavours! i do like how in this draft, her hair resembles like a spiritual fire!
everything about Shirley looks mysterious. when i first saw her in the game, even the shading on her face made her seem quite undead, but somehow, still gentle and human. she looks pacified and solemn, dressed in drowning robes and with tendrils of fabrics floating around her. like a ghost, she floats and glides around the screen, slowly and intentionally. it would have been really cool to see how the shrine changes when she surrenders her dragoon spirit — might be a nice world building idea to consider in the future.
